Review of Riverdale's "Wicked Little Town"

Season 4 Episode 17 Aka the Musical My Mother Would not Approve of

Spoilers are in the following sections.

In this episode, the cast performs songs from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Someone is still leaving videotapes on their doorsteps. Which means a creepy person still lives in Riverdale, and the plot isn't slowing down anytime soon.
Kevin can't perform a song from Hedwig for the variety show he is organizing. Principal Honey won't let him. Kevin attends a sleepover at Betty's house, and the girls encourage him to perform as Hedwig. There's a cute song as they give him a makeover.
Archie decides to sign his friends up as a band for the show. He calls them The Archies, and Jughead says, "Were the me-me-mes taken?"
The students decide to stage a protest on Kevin's behalf and they all dress in drag as Hedwig. Kevin performs a song from the show in the music room. Casey Cott has one of the best voices of all of the cast, and he should have gotten more songs in this episode.
Veronica and Archie argue about her father's poor health, as he has been sneaking to Archie's gym. Betty and Jughead argue as he is watching the weird videotapes instead of catching up on homework. I guess Stonewall Prep wouldn't let his credits transfer? All four sing angrily and throw things. This song was loud! I had to turn the volume down.

There's a break in the text here so I can discuss what happens next. Betty comes to Archie's house to rehearse, and it is only the two of them because of the respective fights. They sing a song and then kiss passionately. We also see flashbacks to earlier moments between them. *You can hear fans crying at this point.* This could lead to a romantic relationship for them. This is the first major cheating scandal for this show.
The funny thing is, this is a normal plot line for teen dramas, and Riverdale has been anything but normal. One Tree Hill had characters cheating on each other, and one pair even ended up together years later. Dawson's Creek had a love triangle as well (not sure about a cheating plot line). This is a smart move for the writers to keep fans invested in the show.
Fans could be upset because Betty and Archie are still viewed as the "good kids." If it was Veronica and Jughead, I'm not sure if fans would care as much. Fans should also understand by this point that the characters aren't meant to be moral examples to follow. I'm interested to find out what happens next.
Veronica and Jughead apologize for their actions later, and Betty and Archie look awkward and stressed as they kiss their respective others. Once they leave, Betty and Archie stare out the windows at each other.
The town attends the variety show at Veronica's nightclub, where The Archies plus Kevin perform. Betty and Archie trade looks, which is interspersed with Jughead and Veronica looking lovingly at their girlfriend and boyfriend, respectively. It's weird to watch.
Jughead watches a creepy video showing people in masks recreating his near death.
