Why I Watch

This week, I'm going to reflect on why I watch the below YouTubers, movies, and television. In no particular order . . .

1) Jake Paul (YouTube): He reminds me of young men who attended the same high school as me. His energy level reminds me of their's, and he shows not only the good parts of his life but the bad parts as well. I don't know yet what I think of his new series Uncut, but I hope he uses it to encourage and help people. I think he's grown since "The Mind of Jake Paul."

2) 2000's romcoms: I like happy endings. But seriously, modern takes on fairy tales (and original stories) can be very fun and encouraging. Take this quote from A Cinderella Story, for example: “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” They can take me back mentally to a simpler time. Also, the characters can be hilarious (ex. most of the adults in Mean Girls).

3) The Bachelor: You may lose some respect for me right now. I understand, it's not cool to watch women battle for a man's affections. But, honestly, it teaches a lot about the lives of American women and dos and don'ts of social interactions. It is also quite quotable. We'll see how Colton Underwood's season plays out. (I may regret including this later.)

4) Riverdale: I first started watching this CW show because it was Cole Sprouse's return to acting. Sorry, every other cast member. But the story line drew me in. I didn't watch it technically until this year, but I would keep up with the plot through YouTube recaps. This current season is moving more into a darker, supernatural element, which I'm not opposed to. However, I am curious about the reason the writers made this change, as it was more of a mystery for the first two seasons. The show as a whole is heavy on plot, not as much on character development.

5) Josh Peck (YouTube): This could be a nostalgic reason, since I first saw him on Drake and Josh reruns a few years ago (I know, I'm quite behind on 2000's Nick shows). Josh's videos have more of a topical feel. Sometimes they have unexpected twists, but it is pretty much him and guests talking about various things.

6) Disney Channel: This may be out of habit than any other reason. I first began watching Disney Channel in middle school, I think. My siblings would watch it, and my sister first introduced me to High School Musical. Some of the shows and movies have been lackluster and good over the years. I do enjoy throwback episodes and movies. One older movie I've recently watched that I would recommend is Now You See It! (2005) starring Aly Michalka.
