6 Memorable Side Characters on TV

Here are some side characters or minor characters (as some are series regulars) from TV shows that caught my eye. I'll explain what each character brings to the show. These aren't my favorite shows necessarily, but these are the characters I came up with. Some minor plot spoilers may occur in the next section.

1) Janice (Friends): She may be one of the most annoying characters (that laugh is incredible), but whenever Janice enters or leaves, she gets my attention. Whether it's her affection for Chandler (and later, Ross) or her excitement whenever she sees the group, Janice is not a character I can easily forget. Here's to being a memorable side character!

2) Sophia (The Golden Girls): She is one of the wittiest characters. I think the writers created some of the most ridiculous lines for her, knowing that as an older woman, she can get away with it. Sophia can even be downright cruel, but it is still entertaining. Her relationship with her daughter is also full of tough love, though Dorothy snaps right back.

3) Double G (Game Shakers): This show is a bit of a stretch. Four kids who have their own video game company? Some of the plot lines are not the best, so I'm grateful when Double G comes into the room. He's the outrageous dad of one of the kids and is also a successful musician. Many times the kids have to rein him in, which adds humor. Kel Mitchell (of the 90s Nickelodeon show Kenan & Kel) returned to Nickelodeon for this show, and it's fun to see him in another comedy.

4) Van (Reba): Many of the minor characters in this show are meant to make Reba look like the smartest one in the room. Van fills this role quite well. He marries Reba's daughter Cheyenne, and they both struggle with seemingly simple things. However, there are moments when Van comes up with some witty replies, which earns him a look from his mother-in-law. His character is a funny addition to this cast.

5) Bailey (The Suite Life on Deck): Many kids who grew up with Zack and Cody prefer the original series, but I think this show helps the characters mature. Bailey is intelligent and witty. She doesn't easily give in to Cody's charms, though she can be naive. She plays off of London well. They develop a loving relationship quicker than London and Maddie did. Bailey's character adds to Suite Life on Deck.

6) Kira (Teen Wolf): Though she wasn't on the show too long, Kira gave Scott the courage to date again after the death of his previous girlfriend. She had good chemistry with Lydia and Malia, and her powers were unique, as she was another type of shape-shifting creature besides Scott and Malia.
