Review of the Billboard Music Awards 2016, Part 1

These awards took place last night on ABC, and I am only covering the performances.
Britney Spears, medley- I honestly fast-forwarded once they removed Spears' outer clothing. I did see her dancing around a pole. What a way to begin the night.
Ludacris, one of the hosts, slammed the Oscars as these awards did have black nominees.
Shawn Mendes, "Stitches"- Mendes performed in two rooms onstage and switched up both the melody and the rhythm. He played the guitar and the piano during his performance.
Fifth Harmony, "Work from Home"- The choreography was in-sync. I hadn't seen 5H perform this song before and didn't know what to expect. I'm still humming that song today.
Meghan Trainor, "No"- She was the first artist to go into the crowd and wore a sparkly dress. I've heard this song a lot recently and fast-forwarded because of that.
Justin Bieber, "Company", "Sorry"- I hadn't heard "Company" before and was pleasantly surprised. His performance included lots of pyrotechnics, lights, and backup dancers. I never enjoy his wearing jeans to an award show, much less ones with holes, but that's only a side note.
P!nk, "Just Like Fire"- She spun from the ceiling throughout the beginning. It was riveting. Eventually they removed the harness on the main stage, and we saw dancers on trapezes. P!nk rapped for a short while and wore a ballerina costume.
The next surprise was Jessica Alba (presenter) in a knee-length black dress. It was lacy and well-put together. No costume malfunctions here.
Nick Jonas, "Close"- He used mirrors, and Tove Lo (another artist who performs on this track) was first behind the see-through mirror and then walked around it (it was shaped like a box).
Next, the stage revolved, and there was Demi Lovato with "Cool for the Summer." She wore a shirt that promoted transgender rights, with one half of the stick figure like a man and the other like a woman. (See HuffingtonPost.com for images.)
Lukas Graham, "7 Years"- I did not realize until last night that this is a band and not just one singer. They are older men, and the lead singer is normal-looking, which is surprising considering today's pop culture. This was one of my favorite groups of the night. The lead singer even said, "Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen" at the end. They had a lot of poise for their Billboard debut.

Part 2 is coming soon!
